Casa La Siesta Equine Refuge

A major part of our lives and a major reason behind the creation of casa la siesta is our overwhelming commitment to save local equines in desperate need of help.  Andalucia  is unfortunately inundated with horses, donkeys and pony’s which have been abandoned, neglected and often starved to death.  Our objective is to help and care for us as many of these beautiful animals as our resources can afford. 10% of the profits received by our hotel and restaurant are automatically donated to the charity. The success of our objectives is dependent upon the financial and physical support of donors.

Brief stories of each of our current equines are detailed here

Financial Assistance

If you would like to help, we offer a a number of schemes of funding-Adopt an equine.  You can select your equine and pay for its up keep for its life at casa la siesta.  The price to adopt a horse is 150€ per month.  This pays for food, veterinary care and of course daily care.  This could prove the perfect gift – as you receive a monthly update from the team and of course a Christmas card and birthday card from the equine itself!

You can make a simple one off donation.  The majority of our donors make a simple one off payment.  Donors are then registered onto our mailing list – providing you with information of any news from the refuge.

Should you wish to send us food directly - you can place an order directly with our local supplier, for which we can provide further details upon request.

Assistance program

Whilst financial assistance is clearly essential, we are hugely grateful if our guests are willing to give up their time and help heal our rescued animals.  Guests are able to take part in the daily ritual of cleaning the stables, grooming the horses and most importantly, giving the horses the love and confidence they so desperately need.  Due to the fact that we are a small hotel, our animals are very fortunate to enjoy almost permanent human attention – and we believe this is a unique advantage of their rehabilitation and thus our refuges success. For those with riding experience, it may also be possible to help exercise the animals with lunging and riding. This is clearly ability dependent as many of the animals are nervous and therefore not very predictable.

If you would like to take part, please let Lee know and we will make the arrangements.

Future investment programs

Stable Extension. We currently have only 4 boxes. Whilst we prefer to leave our animals outside as this often causes them less stress – many of our animals require some stable time – especially when they are heavily starved. We are therefore planning to extend are stabling to accommodate 8. The approximate investment cost is 6000€.

Thank you all for your time and please do contact either of us if you have any further questions!
